Content powerhouse, Banijay Entertainment, announced Endemol Shine Poland will be launching a new adaptation of the critically acclaimed BAFTA-nominated factual format, "Banged Up", for CANAL+. The first two episodes will premiere on December 3, exclusively on CANAL+’s streaming platform.

The Polish version will immerse seven influencers into the stark reality of prison life by placing them inside a decommissioned jail, living side-by-side with former offenders. Under strict rules, participants confront the emotional and psychological challenges of incarceration, gaining a raw and unfiltered understanding of life behind bars.

Originally created by Shine TV, part of Banijay UK, the innovative social experiment first debuted on Channel 4 in 2023, quickly becoming one of the broadcaster’s most-streamed titles. The Polish adaptation becomes the third version, following the hit Dutch version where season 1 became the best-performing original series ever, with 1.6 million streams in its first week, and a confirmed second season.

Małgorzata Perkowska-Czaja, Managing Director of Endemol Shine Poland, celebrated the format: “'Banged Up' is a bold, eye-opening format that challenges perceptions of crime, punishment, and rehabilitation. Its emotional intensity and authenticity resonate universally, and we are proud to bring this powerful, conversation-driving series to Polish viewers. This adaptation will shine a light on real stories, real people, and the reality of the prison system in Poland, while marking the first reality series for CANAL+ locally," noted.

Meanwhile, Lucas Green, Chief Content Officer, Operations at Banijay Entertainment, highlighted its international potential: “Following strong performances in the UK and the Netherlands, 'Banged Up' continues to demonstrate huge international potential. Its unique blend of social experiment, factual insight, and human drama sets it apart. Endemol Shine Poland has an exceptional track record in adapting ambitious formats for the local market, and we are confident it will deliver a compelling and thought-provoking version for CANAL+," added.

THE HIT FACTUAL SERIES "AMBULANCE", NOW AIRING ON POLSAT CAFE

The company also produced the acclaimed factual format, "Ambulance", for Polsat Cafe. Originally created by Dragonfly, part of Banijay UK, for "BBC One", the eight-part series will take viewers inside the heart of Warsaw’s emergency services.

"Ambulance" is a raw, emotionally-charged documentary format that has captivated audiences across the globe. With unprecedented access to emergency control rooms, paramedics, and real-life callouts, the series tells the stories behind the flashing lights — showcasing courage, compassion, and the split-second decisions that save lives. Adapted in Israel, Australia, and Norway, the BAFTA-winning UK version, now in its fifteenth season, continues to break records, consistently drawing over 2.1 million viewers on "BBC One", and was named Best Factual Entertainment title at the 2024 Royal Television Society Northern and Eastern Boarders Awards.
