LuckyChap announced the launch of LuckyChap International, a film and television company headquartered in London and established as a joint venture with Mediawan Group, the leading independent and multi-award-winning European studio. The new entity, which officially launches in January 2026, will be led by acclaimed executives Mona Qureshi and Tanya Qureshi. Operating across the UK and Europe, the company will produce international film and television projects that continue LuckyChap’s bold, creator-driven ethos.

Mona Qureshi, joining after serving as Director of Scripted Series at Netflix UK, and Tanya Qureshi, joining after serving as a Commissioning Editor in Drama at the BBC, will serve as co–Managing Directors, International. The highly respected duo have shaped some of the most singular, groundbreaking, and culture-defining series to emerge from the UK, including “I May Destroy You,” “The Night Manager,” “Adolescence” (Plan B – Mediawan) and “Too Much,” among many others. Bringing decades of combined experience, they will oversee creative and day-to-day operations for the new company, with television as the primary focus. The company will expand its broader film and television team in the coming months.

Importantly, the entire UK organization will work in close, collaborative partnership with LuckyChap’s exceptional U.S. film and television teams, which the company has recently strengthened. The series and films produced will reflect LuckyChap’s signature DNA and will be designed both to spotlight unique creative voices in the UK and Europe and to capitalize on the region’s advantageous production and co-production environment.

The business partnership between LuckyChap and Mediawan Group developed organically from ongoing conversations between the two companies. Both share a belief that the true magic and opportunity in film and television emerge when building an ecosystem that fully supports and empowers creative talent—giving them the resources necessary to achieve their best work.

The venture is majority-owned and controlled by LuckyChap and will lean into both companies’ shared commitment to serving as a global destination for the world’s strongest creative voices. Together, they aim to identify new opportunities to broaden their collaboration, drawing on the long-standing partnerships and capabilities of both companies in the U.S. and abroad.

Mona began her career as an assistant at BBC Films in the late 1990s, later becoming a development executive on several titles. She went on to work in development and production for Ruby Films and The Ink Factory. Her credits include feature films “Brick Lane” for FilmFour, “The Other Boleyn Girl” for Sony/BBC, “Small Island” for BBC Drama, and Susanne Bier’s Emmy-winning adaptation of John le Carré’s “The Night Manager.” After returning to BBC Drama as Commissioning Editor for England in 2017, she oversaw a diverse slate, including Chan Wook Park’s “The Little Drummer Girl,” “Les Misérables,” the BAFTA-winning “Sitting in Limbo,” Mira Nair’s “A Suitable Boy,” “This Is Going to Hurt” starring Ben Whishaw, “The Responder” starring Martin Freeman, and Hugo Blick’s “The English” (coproduction Drama Republic – Mediawan). In 2022, she joined Netflix UK’s original series team to lead the partner-led drama slate, guiding titles including “Adolescence” (Plan B – Mediawan), “Dept Q” from writer-director Scott Frank, Lena Dunham’s “Too Much,” and the films “Joy” and “Steve.” Commissions currently in production include “Legends,” “Pride & Prejudice” and Samantha Strauss’s “Grown Ups.”

Tanya currently serves as a Commissioning Editor in Drama at the BBC, working across a slate that includes the recently released “Riot Women” from Sally Wainwright (Drama Republic - Mediawan) and the upcoming “Waiting for the Out” from Dennis Kelly (Sister Pictures), while also retaining responsibility for tentpole comedies “Ludwig,” “Amandaland,” and the upcoming “Can You Keep A Secret?” with Dawn French. Previously, she served as Head of Comedy at the BBC for four years, overseeing department strategy, shaping the slate, and managing budgets. She served as lead Commissioning Editor on numerous major titles including “Ludwig,” “Amandaland,” and “Am I Being Unreasonable?” Prior to joining the BBC, she worked at BAFTA-winning production company Various Artists, managing a wide slate of both new and established writers and performers and producing several developments and series, including Jon Brown’s “Dead Pixels” and, most notably, Michaela Coel’s “I May Destroy You.”

Mona and Tanya express that stepping into this new chapter together fulfills a long-standing shared passion, noting: “We’ve always shared a deep love of storytelling, so getting to build something together at LuckyChap feels like a dream. As sisters, we’ve cheered each other on through our individual careers, and now we get to combine everything we’ve learned to grow this next chapter—literally and figuratively—side by side. The team at LuckyChap are passionate champions of distinctive voices and bold ideas, and we are thrilled to be part of expanding that mission internationally. It’s rare to find a company that leads with such heart and mischief—we can’t wait to join their ranks and continue to build in that spirit," commented.

The LuckyChap Partners highlight how this expansion fulfills a long-held ambition and why the partnership represents a natural creative alignment, explaining:Launching LuckyChap into the UK and Europe has been a goal of ours for a long time, and we feel we’ve found the perfect alchemy with this team. Combining Mediawan’s passion for nurturing great storytelling and far-reaching strategic capabilities with the remarkable creative leadership of Mona and Tanya Qureshi feels like an undeniable way to accelerate this journey. Every aspect of this international partnership aligns creatively, culturally, and operationally, driving forward LuckyChap's core mission of empowering storytellers in both creative and strategic ways. Mona and Tanya’s rich and storied experience speaks for itself, and we couldn’t be more excited to work with them—and with our friends at Mediawan—to build something truly special," expressed.

Meanwhile, Mediawan Chairman and co-founder Pierre-Antoine Capton emphasizes how the collaboration reflects Mediawan’s long-term vision for global creative growth, stating: “We are thrilled to support LuckyChap’s talented teams in this pivotal step of their development. At Mediawan, our mission has always been to champion creative excellence and outstanding stories from the world’s best talents. This partnership embodies our ambitions for global growth, particularly through strategic and innovative collaborations. As a leading studio in Europe, we are excited to offer LuckyChap our expertise and know-how to support their growth and creativity," highlighted.
