The Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), established in June 2019 and supported by the Ministry of Culture, is a professional intermediary organization working to facilitate the development of Taiwan’s content industries including film and TV, publishing, pop music, ACG, and more, supporting Taiwanese projects to enter into the international market and attracting more international buyers and investment for co-productions. At the last Series Mania, the Agency had a strong presence at the market with a Taiwan Pavilion, where 76 works in search of business opportunities were showcased. In addition, its project "NEST" (co-produced with Belgium) was selected for the Co-Pro Pitching Session, and five projects from different genres participated in the Taiwan Spotlight Pitching Session.

The Taiwanese projects included the crime drama "Fly", an original IP by Taiwanese author Chang Kuo-Li and winner of the 2024 TCCF - Series Mania Award, set to be produced by the French Cinéfrance Studios and Taiwanese Yoosonn Entertainment; "H.A.H.A.H.A", the latest work of Sun Chieh-heng, director of "Three Tears in Borneo", which was nominated for the International Panorama competition at Series Mania Festival 2024; "Fanteasia", an edgy feel-good comedy that celebrates Taiwan as a beacon of LGBTQ+ rights in Asia; "Cold War Hot Wax", which portrays the mainstream music revolution of 1960s Taiwan; and "When the Tigers Come Out", which tells the story of two mothers attempts to expose the dark secrets behind an educational group.

Señal News chatted with "Fly" producer Hsieh Yi-lin and associate producer Leonard Chien about the plot of this French-Taiwanese crime series, created by Chang Kuo-li, featuring strong duo characters, fascinating local cultures, and great food. "After presenting the project at Series Mania, we received some feedback from the audience regarding what could be included and what they are interested in seeing in the show. It was very useful and practical," they said.

In "Fly", the missing Imperial Seal of China reappears in France, igniting a fierce competition between the Palace Museums in Beijing and Taipei. Antoine, the grandson of the seal’s protector, was born to a French father and a Taiwanese mother. While following the clues left by his grandfather, he is unexpectedly drawn into the battle for the treasure. As a result, he is forced to return to Taiwan, where he must confront the emotional wounds left by his mother’s death. In the end, he learns to let go, break free from his burdens, and embrace his freedom. "We're looking for French writers and creators to make the story more credible and convincing," they added.

GREAT TALENT
TAICCA not only highlights the international co-production opportunities for these projects, but also emphasizes the outstanding Taiwanese talent in the country. For instance, "La Réparation", a French-Taiwanese co-production directed by Oscar-winning Régis Wargnier, was filmed in Taiwan. Wargnier collaborated with TAICCA on the movie. This kind of international project can serve as a reference to convince more directors or production teams to co-produce movies or series in Taiwan, leveraging the country’s professional talent.

MUST-ATTEND EVENT
Every year, TAICCA organizes the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF), which this year will take place in Taipei from November 4th to 7th. The event is divided into three main sections: The Forum, where A-list executives share their experiences; The Market, with exhibitors from all over the world (last year, TCCF featured 101 booths and 93 exhibitors); and The Pitching, where producers can present their projects to a decision-maker audience. Representatives from 35 countries have participated in TCCF, and its main goal is to widen its global reach even further.
