Taiwan will play a major role at this year's Udine Far East Film Festival (FEFF) with a strong lineup of Taiwanese films debuting on its 27th edition. On the other hand, Taiwanese actress and filmmaker Sylvia Chang will be honoured with FEFF’s Golden Mulberry for lifetime achievement award in recognition of a career spanning several decades. Adding to Taiwan’s highlights this year, director Pan Ke-yin is nominated for White Mulberry Award (Best First Film) with his first feature "Family Matters".

"The Uniform", directed by Chuang Ching-shen, and "Organ Child" by Chieh Shueh Bin with seven other films are also selected in different sections at FEFF this year.

With the presence of both actresses Moon LEE and Buffy Chen Yan-fei at the festival and the Taiwan Cocktail Night, the lineup talents from Taiwan will shine the diversity and strength of Taiwan cinema.

IN COMPETITION
This year, five Taiwanese films have been selected for the Competition Section, representing a wide range of genres and styles: "Organ Child", explores themes of organ trafficking and revenge, while "The Uniform" delves into youth, self identity, and high school life in Taiwan. "Daughter’s Daughter", starring and produced by Sylvia Chang and executive produced by Hou Hsiao-hsien, offers a nuanced portrayal of a mother-daughter relationship.

In other note, the box office hit "Gatao: Like Father Like Son" brings crime and action to the lineup, while "Family Matters", which focuses on complex family dynamics, will hit theaters in Taiwan this summer. All five Taiwanese competition entries this year received funding from TAICCA’s National Development Fund investment initiative, and the award winners will be announced on the 2nd May at FEFF.

TAICCA Chairperson Homme TSAI congratulated the selected filmmakers and expressed his expectations for these nominated films, which would not only introduce more international audiences to Taiwan’s rich cultural storytelling, but also help Taiwanese films to expand their global market presence and reputation for high-quality cinema.

In addition to the selected films, several restored Taiwanese classics will be featured in FEFF’s Tribute to PAI Ching-jui and Restored Classics sections. Digitally restored by the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFAI), "Lonely Seventeen", "Accidental Trio", and "Goodbye, Darling!" by PAI Ching-Jui will receive special screenings at FEFF, while "The Story of a Small Town" by LEE Hsing, will also make its international premiere with the presence of Arthur Chu, Chairperson of TFAI.

FOCUS ASIA
Moreover, Taiwanese stories are making waves in the FOCUS ASIA industry section, running from April 28 to 30. Two Taiwanese projects were selected: "That Burning House", directed by TSAI Yin-chuan, will take part in the Far East in Progress section, and "Delight Delight", directed by screenwriter Sunny YU, was selected for the All Genres Project Market.

Three other international co-productions —"Green Valley and the Amber Marbles" (co-produced by Flash Forward Entertainment), "The House On The Moon" (co-produced by AVIEW Images), and "Ah Girl" (co-produced by IFA Media) —were also selected for FOCUS ASIA.

Continuing its collaboration with the festival, TAICCA will present the TAICCA Award during Taiwan Cocktail Night, recognizing the most promising project in the All Genres section.
