TelevisaUnivison and The Mediapro Studio unveiled first footage of “Las Pelotaris 1926”, its new ViX+ Original series. Likewise, they confirmed new addition to the cast: the Argentine actor David Chocarro and Mexican actors Marco de la O, Vicente Tamayo, Héctor Kotsifakis and Antonio Gaona. This coproduction is executive produced by Laura Fdez. Espeso, Javier Pons and Marc Cistaré, for The Mediapro Studio; and Natalia Echeverri and Gabriela Remirez for TelevisaUnivision.
The first images released from the series are part of a first stage filming in Mexico, which show some of the outstanding locations chosen, such as the Zócalo, the Gran Hotel Ciudad de México, the magical town of Tepoztlán and the paradisiacal enclave of Las Estacas. Now, the series filming in various Spanish locations such as Madrid and the Basque Country (Euskadi). It is precisely in Euskadi, the birthplace of the Basque pelota game, where the most diverse locations have been chosen, including the emblematic Hotel Londres and Playa de la Concha (Concha Beach) in San Sebastian, as well as other neighboring locations such as the Plaza Berri fronton court in Biarritz, and the streets of towns like Artikutza and Pasaia. “Las Pelotaris 1926” tells the story of Chelo, Idoia and Itzi, three female pelota players who struggle to achieve their dreams in the 1920s, but they will have to assume the consequences of breaking the mold in a world where ambition and sexual freedom were denied to the female gender.
The cast is headed by the Zuria Vega (‘La Venganza de las Juanas’), y the spaniard Claudia Salas (‘Élite’) y María de Nati (‘El Buen Patrón’). Meanwhile, the main male roles will be David Chocarro (‘La Doña’), Marco de la O (‘El Chapo’), Vicente Tamayo (‘Luis Miguel la Serie’), Héctor Kotsifakis (Narcos: México) y Antonio Gaona (‘Rosario Tijeras). The Colombian Viviana Serna (‘Narcos: México’), along with Spaniard Alex Onieva (‘Alta Mar’), Krista Aroca (‘HIT’) y Eva Rubio (‘El Buen Patrón’) are part of the cast too. In addition, the series also features Jesús Castejón (‘Vis a Vis’) y Peter Vives (‘Velvet’).
The series was created by Marc Cistaré (‘Vis a Vis’, ‘El Barco’), who also heads a team of screewriters formed by Adriana Rivas (‘Vis a Vis’), Javier Naya (‘El Barco’) and Mexican Anaí López (‘XY’, Infames’). The eight episodes are directed by Jesús Rodrigo (‘Vis a Vis’, ‘El Internado’). The director of photography is Chechu Graf (‘Toc Toc’, ‘La Vïctima Número 8’) and Fernando González (‘La Casa de Papel) is in charge of the setting as art director. International sales of the series outside the U.S. and Latin America are handled by The Mediapro Studio Distribution.
