TF1’s children’s programming slot TFOU and animation studio Ellipse Animation announced the development of a new animated series, “Animal Jack,” based on the popular comic book by Belgian author Kid Toussaint and illustrator Miss Prickly. The original graphic novel, published by Dupuis, has sold over 1 million copies worldwide and will now be adapted into a 52-episode animated series, with each episode running 11 minutes.
Yann Labasque, Director of Children’s Programming at TF1 Group, stated, “We are delighted to soon be sharing Jack’s extraordinary adventures with TFOU viewers. With his unique character as a mute and magically gifted boy, Jack promises to become an endearing hero who teaches us about diversity, disability, and bravery. This new series opens the door to incredible stories of action and adventure, where imagination and emotion come together.”
Lila Hannou, Director of Development and Strategy at Ellipse Animation, added, “Adapting ‘Animal Jack’ is a wonderful creative adventure. Following in the footsteps of the comic book, this adventure comedy celebrates friendship, solidarity and acceptance of difference through the adventures of a child who can transform himself into an animal. Led by an endearing trio, the series promotes mutual aid, imagination and learning through experience, while encouraging every child to express their uniqueness. We are delighted to be working with the teams at TF1 to bring this universe to life.”
The story follows Jack, a 10-year-old boy who can transform into any animal he chooses. Although mute, Jack communicates through gestures, expressions, and a strong connection with his close-knit group of friends. His disability becomes a strength, allowing him to connect with the world around him in unique and empowering ways.
The new series is expected to further strengthen TFOU’s market position, which in 2024 achieved a leading average viewing share of over 23% among children under 10, according to Médiamétrie. TFOU’s 1,500-hour programming slate is distributed across TF1, TFX, and the free streaming platform TF1+, offering a broad reach for animated literary adaptations and original content.
Ellipse Animation, a subsidiary of the French Média-Participations group, brings decades of expertise to the project. The studio has produced iconic titles including “The Adventures of Tintin,” “The Garfield Show,” and the new series based on “The Smurfs.” Known for its focus on artistic quality and technical innovation, Ellipse partners with international studios to create globally appealing content for children and families.
