ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones presents the new videogame "The cause of the accident that set the fire", developed by Nokorpo, an online runner game based on the audiovisual piece from the “Spain, Where Talent Ignites” campaign.

The campaign was presented at the San Sebastian Festival, MIPCOM, AFM and the Busan Festival in order to promote the international image of the “Audiovisual from Spain” brand (film, television, animation, and videogames) and features the central piece entitled The cause of the accident that set the fire, produced by ICEX and directed by CANADA (best known for their music videos of artists such as Dua Lipa, Rosalía, Katy Perry or Tame Impala), starring Berta Prieto, Karla Sofía Gascón, Bárbara Lennie, JA Bayona, Albert Serra, Omar Ayuso and Miguel Herrranz.

The videogame takes this audiovisual piece as a reference and transforms itself into a simple project in terms of mechanics, but also adding the fun and challenging side reflected through the level design that allows you to participate in the experience and make the story your own. Berta, the protagonist, is constantly moving forward and the player decides when to slow down or when to launch her forward with momentum. The mechanics echo how doubts hold her back, the fear of not making sense at the end of the short film. But it is the inevitable momentum afterwards, guided by the support of her team, that will lead her to the spark that reveals the cause of the accident.

The structure is divided into several sections, each with a distinct purpose. First, there is the tutorial, where the characters and main mechanics are introduced, providing the foundation for the story. Next comes the storyboard, a segment that delves into the protagonist's doubts and insecurities while also presenting the initial obstacles she must overcome. Finally, the conclusion takes center stage with fire as a central element, as the protagonist drives the car that symbolizes the ignition of her creativity, all set within an environment inspired by the fashion film's set design.

Pablo Rubio Ruiz-Ayúcar, producer of the videogame explained the general idea of the title.“Taking the short film as a reference, our main goal was to capture the idea of running forwards in the unbridled creative journey of Berta, the protagonist. We chose to make a runner game genre because the gameplay fits with the vision of the short film," commented.

The videogame has been created by the NOKORPO team, formed by game developers and open source enthusiasts from Spain. They create their own games, and also help others to create theirs. They work mainly with free software and open source tools and consider it essential to promote the values of free software, and open communities where knowledge and tools are shared.

In addition to Pablo Rubio Ruiz-Ayúcar, Alicia Redondo Martos (Design), Helena Cabanillas Serrano (Art), Juan Antonio (Nepo) Nepormoseno Rosales (Programming and QA) and Sara Krikech Alcalde (2DFX Support) have participated in the creation and development of the videogame.

“Spain, where talent ignites” links the image of Spanish audiovisual to talent, creativity, professionalism, and excellence, enhancing the recognition and reputation of Spanish audiovisual for an international and professional audience. It aims to promote the commercialization of Spanish productions and increase business opportunities for the sector in a highly competitive global context.

It is part of the program for the promotion and internationalization of the audiovisual sector of the “Spain Audiovisual Hub” plan of the Government of Spain within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Since 2021, with the support of the Secretary of State for Telecommunications, ICEX has significantly reinforced the actions it has been developing in the different audiovisual industries: greater presence and visibility in international markets, promotion of a unique brand image, technical conferences -including co-production-, direct and reverse missions, etc.

The brand that will be boosted by this campaign is “Audiovisual from Spain”, through which ICEX promotes the Spanish audiovisual sector in international markets, an umbrella brand that includes the sub-brands “Cinema from Spain” and “Docs from Spain”, “Animation from Spain”, “Games from Spain” and “XR from Spain”.
