JHAMAL ROBINSON JOINS NETFLIX AS VP, PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT FOR US, CANADA

The former Discovery executive is set to oversee production management for Netflix series and films in North America. The UCAN production leads for content will now report to him.

Netflix has hired Discovery’s former SVP Jhamal Robinson to oversee production for the streamer in North America. As VP of production management for the streamer in the US and Canada, he will report to Netflix VP of physical production Ty Warren. “Jhamal is an enormously accomplished production executive with vast experience across many different types of content,” Warren said. “He has a passion for leadership, collaboration and innovation that will make him a tremendous asset for our studio.”

Robinson will oversee production management for Netflix series and films in North America. The UCAN production leads for series, film, non-fiction, production planning, and strategy & operations will now report to him. Robinson’s appointment follows the recent appointment of Anna Mallett to oversee all Netflix production in the UK as well as local language production across EMEA, LATAM and APAC. Robinson and Mallett will be counterparts In the newly created positions as Netflix is streamlining its reporting structure amid the rapid expansion of the streamer’s global production footprint.

The executive spent eight years at Discovery. He was most recently SVP of production management, a role that he took up in 2016 and which saw him work across the factual giant’s shows for its networks including HGTV, TLC and flagship Discovery Channel. Prior to that, Robinson worked as head of production at Yahoo! and he held the same role for NBCUniversal-owned E!. His career credits include Deadliest Catch, Chopped and Manhunt, among numerous others.

Robinson is a five-time Emmy nominee, winning in 2010 for his work as a line producer on the Style Network and NBCUniversal’s "Clean House: The Messiest House." Series on which he supervised production during his career include the “90 Day Fiancé” franchise, Deisel Brothers, “Expedition Unknown,” “Puppy Bowl,” “Chopped,” “Deadliest Catch” and Discovery’s scripted projects “Harley and the Davidsons”  Tyler Perry’s “Too Close to Home” and “Manhunt.”
