Deutsche Welle's The Global Media Forum event, “Diversity vs. division: how news organizations can promote inclusion” will take place on 24th August at 2:30 PM (UTC+2). The Global Media Forum event looks at the state of the local journalism industry amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The speakers will include Jamie Angus from the UK's BBC World Service Group, Aruna Roy, Political and social activist, India, and Peter Limbourg, Director General, Deutsche Welle. The session will be moderated by Waslat Hasrat-Nazimi.

This online session is part of the digital Global Media Forum, which began in May and will continue through the upcoming months. The 2020 digital Global Media Forum continued on the 10th of August, covering how the local journalism industry has handled questions regarding its relevance and financial survival in the growing digital media world. The content will be available on the website.

Journalists Brang Mai from Myanmar, Nasir Salisu Zango from Nigeria, and David Schraven from Germany joined DW host Elizabeth Shoo to shine a light on how the sector has remained relevant and financially stable. The newsmakers discuss ideas relating to how the media can help increase diversity, how executives can help promote inclusion, and how journalists can inspire solidarity in an environment trying to encourage division.

Some of the current events that will be discussed include the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei being accused of collecting people's data, exiled Turkish journalist Can Dündar evaluating the state of press freedom in Turkey, and Australia's lack of diversity in the newsroom.
