Escapade Media has secured a deal with newly formed Mermaid Pictures for two of their development titles; "Wedding Dancers" (10x52’), a factual entertainment series, and "Deadly Messages" (8x60’), a new cosy crime series.  Escapade will be launching both returnable series at MIPCOM next month.

Mermaid Pictures was founded by Creative UK Female Founders alumni Sara Gibbings (Producer – "Welcome to Wrexham") and Jo Southwell (Director – "Call The Midwife") for the development and production of their joint slate. With a focus on impactful storytelling for both national and international audiences, Mermaid Pictures champions female and under-represented creatives, honouring regional talent and diversity.

Natalie Lawley of Escapade Media comments: “Jo Southwell and Sara Gibbings are a formidable creative force, and Escapade is honoured to be working with them.  Having already spoken to a number of high-profile clients, we are building interest for these projects which appeal to the trends and needs of current buyers and commissioners”.

Jo Southwell and Sara Gibbings of Mermaid Pictures state: “Mermaid Pictures are delighted to launch both 'Wedding Dancers' and 'Deadly Messages' at MIPCOM in partnership with Escapade Media. We are already in discussions with some interesting talent and are looking forward to announcing more soon”.

In "Wedding Dancers," celebrity choreographers work with couples and their wedding parties to create bespoke dances to transform their big day with spectacular performances. It culminates in a dance -off in a stunning destination wedding venue. Based on the online phenomenon, Wedding Dancers is the very definition of inclusive family viewing.

"Deadly Messages", written by Omar Khan ("Hollyoaks"), and directed by Jo Southwell ("Call the Midwife"). this 8-part returnable crime series follows the sleuthing skills of Pushpa Babbar, a former Delhi detective, now UK social media icon, who cracks cold cases uncovered online, using her unique blend of eastern instincts and western methods.  "Deadly Messages" brings a fresh, irresistible twist to the cosy crime format: a sharp-witted, glamourous, South Asian woman with a nose for mystery and no filter to speak of.
