TelevisaUnivision Inc. recently confirmed the official launch of “UniVisionarios,” a new initiative to honor U.S. Hispanics and their contributions to their local communities, and around the world. “#MiVisionario: People who work tirelessly every day giving of themselves to help their community,” the company wrote. “These everyday UniVisionarios impacted the Hispanic community, improving lives and helping others achieve their goals. The top 10 finalists, nominated by the Advisory Committee and Univision viewers, will be announced during the celebration of the UniVisionarios Awards Ceremony later this year.”
Starting today through 28 March, UniVisionarios.com accepts submissions for the category MiUniVisionarios Awards, providing a list of eligibility requirements. Upon receiving the entries, the company will review all submissions/nominations for eligibility and base their selections on a set of categories. The companies have appointed The Advisory Committee to select the nominees on a national level. The board features members with notable recognitions such as Gloria Estefan & Emilio Estefan, Dr. Julio Frenk, Dr. Pedro Greer, Dolores Huerta, Mark Hugo Lopez, and Antonio Tijerino.
TelevisaUnivision will feature the top 25 nominees on its linear, digital, and audio platforms throughout the year, and include coverage from particular segments on Univision Noticias, TUDN network, Univision.com, Uforia’s radio network, and across flagship shows “Depierta América,” “El Gordo y La Flaca,” “Primer Impacto,” and “Aquí y Ahora,” among others.
Highly acclaimed Univision journalist Teresa Rodriguez, who also serves as host of “UniVisionarios,” made the official announcement during Univision’s “Premio Lo Nuestro.” “UniVisionarios” is the first Spanish-language platform to recognize such individuals. Rodriguez herself is a 15-time Emmy-award-winning journalist and winner of a George Foster Peabody and the Silver Angel for Excellence in Media Awards. She is also a best-seller author and currently a member of the Miami Dade College Alumni Council.
