Today, I won’t talk about the Coronavirus or the global extent of this pandemic because this is a subject that keeps us busy all the time. I’m going to talk to you about us, the ones who work in the business and telecommunications industry.

I belong to a generation that grew up with “Back To The Future,” “The Jetsons,” and “Get Smart.” Who didn’t dream of owning a spacecraft or a shoe-phone? What about a robot who does your homework for you? Nowadays, technology allows us to broadcast from our own homes using a mobile phone. With Señal News' team, we conduct daily video meetings from home. Isn’t this similar to what we dreamed of when we watched “Back To The Future?”

We are part of the industry that developed the technology, platforms, and content that allows us to stay connected and entertained at home. For the first time in history, it is not a war or a social-political conflict that forces us to distance ourselves. Today, we are separated by a virus for which there is no cure yet, and the best way to fight it is to stay at home. The current circumstances might allow us to get to a more personal perspective of each other, and create a more intimate environment in our lives.

I tend to find the positive side of all adverse situations. It is a unique moment in history, and we are all in this together at the same time. We can be creative and #StayTuned. It is not the moment to do great business deals; it’s a time to help each other, stay united, and informed about our industry.

Within each crisis, there is a sign (Señal). For me, the “sign” of the Coronavirus is that we must step out of our comfort zone and reinvent ourselves. That particular context gives us more free time in our agendas and more quality time with our families at home. It leads us to discover new forms of entertainment and businesses.

Undoubtedly, the Coronavirus won't be like “The Walking Dead,” which has more than ten seasons. It is, however, the first of its kind to pause the entire world all at once. I am convinced that the situation is like a "reborn", from where all of us will get stronger and more united than ever.

My name is Fernando Calviño, and I am the CEO of Señal News. I invite you to #StayTuned with us and share your vision about the present and future of our great entertainment industry.

Thank you for being there!
Fernando
