Kanal D International is a global media company recognized worldwide for the quality and variety of its Turkish dramas, although it also produces miniseries, soap operas, and formats, among other genres.

Although the Covid-19 crisis has affected the company - like all other companies in the world -, the wide range of partners and its varied portfolio allowed Kanal D International to continue closing agreements around the world, even in times of social isolation. For example, recently Kanal D’s "Wounded Love" premiered on Bosnia Herzegovina's FTV, and “Forbidden Love” will soon be re-striking the audiences in Bolivia, Ecuador and Paraguay.

“Luckily, Kanal D International was ready to operate out of the office,”  Kerim Emrah Turna, Executive Director at Kanal D International, told Señal News. In the case of the broadcaster Kanal D, since all the production has been stopped, it started airing some movies and re-done titles. However, this type of programming does not exactly represent a decrease in audience. “Since March we are facing a huge demand from our clients for the ready-mades and our best-seller titles. We have signed a lot of deals,” Turna assured.

When it comes to content sales, the executive considers that “digital markets are really useful, as online is going to be more and more important”. Nevertheless, Turna misses the face to face interaction with clients, as they provide a better understanding of their needs. “Some physical markets will still be existing in the upcoming period, such as Mipcom or NATPE, but I am not sure about some others with low return on investment rate”, he mentioned.

Regarding the future, Turna expressed: “From the optimistic perspective, in the upcoming months – if everything is under control –, there will be a very fast increase and were are going to be going back to normal speedily. But, of course, there will be a lot of changes and things that we will never be able to do like we did in the past. Even shaking hands will be a huge problem for a long period”.
