Powerkids Entertainment is a leading company in animation investment and intellectual property management and distribution, managed by professionals with decades of experience and established relationships within the industry. Based out of Singapore and India, the company has been co-producing several animated shows for the global market.
One of the latest Powekids' show is "Dragonero", (26x26'), co-produced in collaboration with Sergio Bonelli, Italian pubcaster Rai and post-production house Nexus TV, with Powerkids overseeing animation, global distribution (excluding Italy) and consumer products. "The series was launched at Lucca Comics & Games in October, and it's completely ready for delivery", said Manoj Mishra, Chief Executive Officer at Powerkids to Señal News. The 2D/3D-animated series (pictured) targets 7 to 12-year-olds, and it’s an adaptation of an ongoing comic book series of the same name that’s been in print since 2007 with millions of copies sold worldwide. “Dragonero” would be premiering on Rai very soon.
Powerkids has also presented to the global market "Adventures of Akira and Mowgli" (52x11’) that introduces a centre girl character named Akira. "We are seeking for co-production partners, we have got a lot of great interest as far as this show is concerned", affirmed Mishra. Another highlight project is "Puppet Poppet" (38x7.5'), a puppet show with five curious friends living in different cities in the Global Village. They gather to explore their world, learn about their countries, cultures, their feelings and grow together in this light-hearted, sketch comedy with a multitude of segments.
Apart from these productions, Powerkids has its own “POWERKIDSTV.com” YouTube channel. “We have 31.1 million subscribers on our YouTube channel from South Asian region, and soon we're opening up globally", noted the CEO.
GLOBAL STRATEGY
Every Powekids IP has a 360° strategy behind. "That's a critical component in terms of monetization", explained Mishra. The company owns and distributes "Akira and Mowgli"; "Jane and Jerry"; "The Jungle Book"; "Peter Pan", "The Psammy show", "The New Adventures of Lassie", among other titles. "We are looking for 360 degree monetization right now, from gaming to ancillary rights, from Metaverse to licensing and merchandising," he added.
Talking about new technologies been used in the current animation landscape, Mishra reminded that technology has been an intrinsic part in the sector from the very beginning, but now "with the integration of interactivity, the metaverse and the gaming, it has become more and more conducive for the industry to harness the power of technology," he said. "If there is a new avenue opening for monetization, based on the technology front, we should just take it, work towards it and grab it", he admitted.
