Animated content has seen a 22% spike in total stream time during the lockdown period, according to new study published by stream-tracking website Reelgood, which pulled its data on which TV shows its users in the US have started watching, for the first time, from March 16 to April 26, 2020.

Animation was followed by family-friendly movies (16.95% growth) and cult classics (15.3%), while musicals (12.59%) and fantasy (11.36%) rounded out the top five.

When it comes to the most-popular "feel good" movies and shows being binged in the past weeks, “Rick and Morty” comes out on top, with a 12.7% increase over its pre-quarantine numbers. Other shows in the top ten on the chart include “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Community,” “Steven Universe,” “The Office,” and “Modern Family”.

However, not every genre experienced growth during this lockdown period. In fact, some of the more traditional ones not only did not increase their percentage but decreased it. The crime genre (11.8% decrease) led the way for genres suffering the most viewership loss and it was followed by horror (8.38%) and history (8.01%).
