Univision's “El Retador” will form part of the network's Domingos en Familia (Family Sundays) programming slate this summer. "After its successful run in Mexico, we are thrilled to bring for the first time to the U.S. the hit show 'El Retador.' This exciting new format, which features all the flair and drama of a reality competition, will delight the multigenerational audience of Univision's highly-rated Domingos en Familia timeslot this summer," said Ignacio Meyer, EVP, Music and Non-Scripted Entertainment, TelevisaUnivision.
The show features talented individuals, in three different disciplines, willing to take on an established artist in a spectacular talent showdown. The renowned actress and comedian Consuelo Duval is set to host the new season. “El Retador” will begin castings across the U.S. and Puerto Rico next month in anticipation of its awaited debut later this year.
The title kicks off with the introduction of three Campeones (Champions), a famous singer, impersonator, and an award-winning dancing duo - sitting on a throne with a sum of money that accumulates show after show. Each week they will have to defend their throne and money from El Retador, an aspiring artist in these three disciplines.
In each episode, two aspiring candidates will showcase their talent to a renowned panel of judges and compete for a chance to become El Retador (Challenger). Once the winner is decided, the Champion and the Challenger will have to display all their talent in a faceoff that will decide their fate in the show, and it’ll be up to the audience to determine who is the final winner.
