ARTE Distribution has acquired the compelling and thought-provoking documentary "My Friend Dahmer, the Milwaukee Cannibal" (52’), produced by Tournez S’il Vous Plaît (TSVP), which offers an unprecedented look into the origins of one of America's most infamous serial killers, Jeffrey Dahmer, through the eyes of his high school friend and acclaimed graphic novelist, Derf Backderf.  The documentary will be available for international distribution, with ARTE Distribution ensuring that this remarkable work reaches viewers around the world.

Agnès Pizzini and Olivier Mirguet’s film draws the story of how Derf Backderf found out his high school friend Jeffrey Dahmer had turned into a serial killer. The film delves deeply into Backderf's journey, highlighting the two-decade-long process of creating his graphic novel. Through intimate interviews with Backderf, the 2 directors capture the emotional and creative challenges he faced, from the difficult beginnings to the setbacks and eventual recognition of his work.

“We are thrilled to bring this important and deeply moving documentary to a wider audience," said Joséphine Létang, Head of Sales at ARTE Distribution. "Derf Backderf's story is not just about Jeffrey Dahmer, but also about the process of artistic creation and the moral dilemmas that come with it. This film offers a rare and insightful perspective that will resonate with viewers on many levels."

Additionally, ARTE Distribution is delighted to collaborate once again with TSVP, the producer of "My Friend Dahmer." "This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to working with exceptional production companies that share our vision for delivering high-quality, impactful documentaries to a global audience," Létang added.
