WeiT Media, a Banijay company, confirmed “Fear Factor” will return to Russia after 16 years, in a deal with NTV. Hosted by singer Anatoliy Tsoy, the new Russian version will air later this year, and will see pairs of celebrities working through a series of intense challenges that put their primal fears to the ultimate test.

From walking on a machine boom over a quarry, to burying themselves in a rat infested grave, this reality game show sees six celebrity contestants pushed to their limits both physically and mentally. If they manage to complete each task, they advance, but if they fail the mission, they are immediately eliminated. Only one that triumphs at the final post will be able to win the cash prize for their chosen charity.

Filming for the 8x48’ series will take place in Tula, known in Russia as the "hero-city," and thus the perfect location for celebrities to face their fears. Originally created by Endemol Shine Netherlands, "Fear Factor" is a proven international success with returning seasons in India, United States and Belgium, amongst others.

“We have extensive experience in adapting international formats and now it’s the time for cult classic 'Fear Factor' to broadcast on our channel once again. More than 15 years passed since the original series aired on NTV, and we are excited that our viewers will experience the show and the new surprises we have in store,”  said Timur Weinstein, General Producer of NTV Broadcasting Company.

Yulia Sumacheva, Managing Director of WeiT Media, added: “'Fear Factor' is one of the most talked about shows on Russian television, and it’s great to be bringing this exciting format to the next-generation of viewers. Filmed in a brilliant location, this reboot features a fantastic line up of Russian celebrities as they tackle their fears head-on in new challenges which are bigger and better than ever before”.

Lastly, Lucas Green, Global Head of Content Operations at Banijay, concluded: “This is one of Banijay’s most iconic formats, with celebrities working together to confront fears in extraordinary ways. In a year like no other, audiences can relate to overcoming challenges, and we are confident this Russian comeback will resonate with and draw a new fanbase”.
