With Spain named MIPCOM 2024 Country of Honour, BBC Studios has announced pre-sales of its latest MIPCOM titles to the region. Ahead of their UK premieres, local streamer Filmin has acquired "The Split: Barcelona" and Movistar Plus+ has snapped up "Renaissance: The Blood and the Beauty."

"The Split: Barcelona" (2 x 60’), sees BAFTA and Emmy award-winning Abi Morgan and SISTER join forces once again. After the success of three series of "The Split," the hit legal drama returns to our screens to explore the themes of love, legacy, and modern marriage, through a sparkling cast of characters that audiences know and love. Two years on from the final series, formidable family lawyer Hannah Defoe (Nicola Walker) and her family have gathered for a beautiful wedding at a magnificent vineyard, nestled in Catalonia’s wine region. As the sun rises over the glorious Spanish countryside, Hannah is compelled to banish the ghosts of her past and open herself up to the possibility of love again. Can she find the courage to take the leap into a new future?

"Renaissance: The Blood and the Beauty" (3 x 60’) is a thrilling three-part drama documentary series from BBC Studios Specialist Factual Productions and co-produced by PBS. It explores the turbulent lives – and breathtaking creations – of the three greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance: Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Raphael. The series will examine how all three men were shaped by the unique circumstances of the period and explore how they were pushed to ever greater heights of fame and artistic achievement by a combination of intense personal rivalry and their ensnarement in the bloody and brutal dynastic battles of some of the Renaissance’s most powerful patrons.

Earlier this month, it was also confirmed that Movistar Plus+ had acquired BBC Studios Natural History Unit’s "Big Cats 24/7" (6 x 60’), which follows the lives of lions, cheetahs, and leopards in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, a place described as one of Africa’s last wildernesses.

Nick Percy, President, Global Markets, BBC Studios, commented the deals: ‘I’m proud of the longstanding relationships we have built with our Spanish partners. These pre-sales demonstrate the confidence buyers have in our ability to deliver high-quality and unique storytelling for their audiences. It’s fantastic that audiences in Spain will soon be able to watch some of our latest titles with "The Split: Barcelona," "Renaissance: The Blood and the Beauty" and "Big Cats 24/7," stated.

Other new scripted and unscripted titles that BBC Studios will be distributing at MIPCOM include, "Death Valley," "Reunion" and "Return to Paradise" as well as "Expedition Killer Whale," "Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping" and "Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby Series 6."
