Recently, winning producer and distributor of premium content Breakthrough Entertainment closed a partnership with Particular Crowd, the new film banner of Turner Latin America, for the production at least 5 films over the next year or two. "We did this partnership because it’s a really strong initiative by Turner and we line up on many levels creatively with what they are trying to achieve," said Craig McGillivray, Breakthrough Entertainment’s Vice President of Distribution to Señal News.
The first project that had been born of this association is the horror comedy “Vicious Fun” that follows Joel, a caustic 1980’s film critic for a national horror magazine, who finds himself unwittingly trapped in a self-help group for serial killers. With no other choice, Joel attempts to blend in with his homicidal surroundings or risk becoming the next victim.
Shot in Hamilton, Ontario, "Vicious Fun" is directed by Cody Calahan and produced by Chad Archibald and Cody Calahan. The film features an incredible cast including David Koechner ("Anchorman", "Cheap Thrills"), Evan Marsh ("Shazam!", "Riot Girls"), Amber Goldfarb ("TV’s Bad Blood"), Julian Richings ("TV’s Supernatural", "Man of Steel"), Robert Maillet ("300", "Immortals"), Ari Millen ("TV’s Orphan Black", "I’ll Take Your Dead") and Sean Baek ("TV’s Killjoys").
About the distribution strategies for each movie, Breakthrough Entertainment’s Vice President of Distribution explained that its depends on the film. "We will devise a strategy as the films are ready. We will aim to do a festival circuit and then released theatrically in markets, capitalizing on all windows on a global level."
Breakthrough Entertainment sees this association as a new opportunity to reach Latin America market. "We’re working with one of the biggest players in the region and are very excited by the opportunity.", affirmed McGillivray.
