Production has begun in Iceland on the new ‘Nordic Blue’ crime drama "Hildur," based on the best-selling novels by Satu Rämö. A surfing female detective fights against time to confront a serial killer in the fjords of Iceland while unraveling the mystery of her long-lost sisters. Cineflix Rights has boarded as the worldwide distribution partner for the English/Scandinavian language six-part series coproduced by Take Two Studios for Nelonen Media’s streamer Ruutu and Sagafilm for Siminn, with financing provided by IPR.VC.

"Hildur" is a co-production between Finnish Take Two Studios and Icelandic Sagafilm in association with IPR.VC. The Director is Tinna Hrafnsdóttir ("Reykjavik 112," "Vigdis," "Descendants"), and it is written by head writer Matti Laine ("Bordertown," "The Paradise"), together with Margret Örnolfsdottir ("Trapped," "Prisoners"). The executive producers are Sara Norberg and Eero Hietala for Take Two Studios, Kjartan Thor Thordarson and Tjörvi Thorsson for Sagafilm, and Timo Argillander, James Baker, and Andrea Scarso for IPR.VC. Cineflix Rights is the worldwide distribution partner for the series.

Set in the remote and stunningly picturesque Westfjords region of Iceland, surrounded by stormy seas and towering mountains, "Hildur" is the story of a young girl who suffered the heart-wrenching disappearance of her two sisters on their way home from school. Now, 25 years later and working as a detective in her hometown, Hildur is drawn into an investigation of a baffling series of crimes. Accompanied by unlikely allies Jakob, a Finnish trainee officer seeking a fresh start, and Florian, a German recruit mistakenly assigned to the team, she begins to uncover long-standing mysteries while it becomes clear that they are on the trail of a cunning serial killer.

Leading the international cast are Ebba Katrín Finnsdóttir ("Húsó," "Vigdís," "Reykjavík 112") as Hildur, Lauri Tilkanen ("Deadwind") as Jacob, and Rick Okon ("Das Boot," "Tatort," "Sisi 4") as Florian. They are joined by Icelandic Nína Dögg Filipusardóttir ("Prisoners," "Valhalla Murders," "Trapped"), Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir ("Black Sand," "Darkness," "Trapped," "Women at War"), Oddur Julíusson ("The Minister," "Descendants"), and Finnish Oona Airola ("Helsinki Syndrome," "Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki").

Described as ‘Nordic Blue,’ the series is a crime thriller that embraces families, friendships, humor, and the power of love, while reflecting Iceland’s blue skies, mountains, ice, and seas. Publishing rights to the "Hildur" trilogy have sold around the world, including the UK, where it has the title The Clues in the Fjord, as well as in Germany, Italy, all Nordic countries, and Spain. The worldwide sales for the novels are now approaching 1 million copies.

James Durie, Head of Scripted, Cineflix Rights, praised the title: “‘Hildur’ is the perfect example of the increasingly popular Nordic Blue genre – a thriller with strong characters unraveling a complex case, but combined with warmer themes of love and friendship, humor, and mysticism, all set against the beautiful backdrop of one of the world’s most scenic locations. We are thrilled to be working with Take Two Studios, Sagafilm, and IPR.VC to bring Hildur’s story to life for her many fans around the world," commented.

Finally,, Executive Producer Eero Hietala referred to the culture in which the title is inscribed:Readers around the world have fallen in love with 'Hildur', and so have we at Take Two Studios. Rooted in both Finnish and Icelandic culture, the series blends suspense, family drama, and Nordic mysticism.
