Quebec-based producer and distributor Datsit Sphere has acquired BGM (formerly Bristow Global Media) from Kew Media Group, which went into administration last week. BGM was formed by Julie Bristow in 2013 to create multi-genre, multi-platform content and has grown into a global entertainment company with a wide range of diverse productions and an international reputation for premium factual content.
Since last year, Marlo Miazga is the new President and CEO of the company. “The foundations we have layed over the past three years have set BGM up for success. We have a spectacular slate of content that will see us expanding internationally across both our Premium Factual and Kids divisions in 2020.”
The Toronto-based company’s growing roster of titles produced for broadcasters around the world include "100 Days to Victory" (Corus Entertainment, Foxtel, BBC Scotland; distributed by KEW MEDIA Distribution (KMD)), "It’s My Party" (TVO), "Hockey Wives" (W Network), "Haunted Hospitals" (Discovery’s Quest Red; distributed by KMD), "Paranormal 9-1-1" (T+E, Discovery’s Quest Red; distributed by KMD) and "Cleared for Chaos" (Discovery Channel Canada; distributed by KEW’s TCB Media Rights).
Bruno Dubé, president and CEO of Datsit Sphere, said: “Our strategy for some time has been to create a completely diverse, talented network of creatives. We have carefully, over time, become a home for excellence in all genres; animation, unscripted, documentary, fiction, distribution and feature film. BGM is one of the leaders of the Canadian domestic production scene, and more crucially for us, a significant player in the international market. This acquisition is a building block towards realising our plans to create a global, sustainable, independent production group capable of producing quality entertainment across all genres and platforms.”
