Entertainment One has acquired the international licensing rights, with the exception of the UK, to the feature length documentary, "Joni Mitchell: 50 Years of Blue."  The insightful special offers a definitive look at Joni’s life and career spotlighting the importance of the landmark album Blue, which celebrated its milestone golden anniversary this summer.

Directed by BAFTA winner Teresa Griffiths, the title highlights the drive and determination behind the musician’s international success, describing her life and career up to the point in 1970 when she began writing and recording what was to become Blue, and the incredible life she has lived in the 50 years since. “This immersive documentary is sure to move audiences who fell in love with this iconic artist and those who are discovering Joni Mitchell’s work afresh today,” said Noel Hedges, EVP, Acquisitions, International Distribution, eOne. “We’re delighted to offer this compelling documentary to our clients as part of our ongoing commitment to deliver inspiring content that resonates with viewers of all ages.”

As the album has grown in importance with each passing decade, the documentary showcases recordings of her fourth album through archive footage, never-before-heard interview material with Mitchell herself, and fresh new interviews with collaborators Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Russ Kunkel and James Taylor. The documentary is produced by Lonesome Pine Productions for BBC 2 in the UK.

The title fits in well with the network's factual slate of premium, high-end unscripted content for clients worldwide. Some of the company’s recent offerings include the international Emmy Award-winning Inside China, from Hardcash Productions; The Highland Vet, which launched on 5Select in the UK to record ratings; and Arctic Vets, which is currently in production on Season 2 in Canada.
