Globo has just included two more series in its catalog: "Renegade Archangel" and "Anti Kidnapping Unit". The productions are electrifying police thrillers with dynamic scripts, which show current issues of the society, with much realism and action. Both will debut at Virtual Screenings Autumn.
Written by José Junior and directed by Heitor Dhalia, the series ‘Renegade Archangel’ tells the story of Mikhael (Marcelo Mello Jr., from ‘A Life Worth Living’ and ‘Under Pressure’), a violent and incorruptible police officer leading Arcanjo, a police team. After leading a clandestine intervention in a slum that ended in a massacre, he is transferred to another city, to be away from the action. With a good nose for crimes, he ends up annoying the local organized crime and decides to take revenge, being in direct conflict with powerful people who lead schemes in the upper circles of politics in Rio de Janeiro. In order to make the miniseries even closer to reality, 14 of the 16 police characters of the story are performed by real police staff as actors. And the drug dealer roles were performed by former inmates.
"Renegade Archangel" is a co-production of Globoplay and Multishow with AfroReggae Audiovisual.
As for "Anti Kidnapping Unit", directed by Vicente Amorim, it is marked by a script with intense pace, full of surprising turns and strong hooks. The story takes place in the end of the 1990s, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, when a great wave of kidnappings leaves the city cornered by violence. The secretary of security in a city, a former general from the dictatorship and the police chief, a militant socialist, gather and call three corrupt cops and a police inspector famous for being genocidal to save the city from criminals, from the police, and from itself. Empowered by the system, they take the Anti-kidnapping Office and, with much intelligence and some brutality, start to solve the kidnappings, one by one. Their lives turn upside down while old allies in and out of the police become their enemies, but their mission, the lives of the victims, are more important. During the investigation of the most delicate kidnapping, of the daughter of a candidate for governor, they find more than they should: a powerful machine, corrupt and lethal, which will now turn against them. To make the story livelier, some scenes were filmed in places that have difficult access in the slums of Rio de Janeiro.
"Anti Kidnapping Unit" was produced by Globoplay, in partnership with Afroreggae Audiovisual, Multishow and Hungry Man.
