ITV has commissioned leading indie Spun Gold TV to produce a new format which pits previous high profile contestants of other major TV gameshows against each other to discover who is the king or queen of TV quiz shows.
"Quizmaster", a 90-minute peak time special hosted by Jeremy Vine, sees 15 previous contestants of shows including "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?", "Mastermind", "The Chase", "Fifteen to One and University Challenge" compete in a high stakes, high drama environment in front of a large studio audience.
Jeremy Vine said: “How clever do you have to be to win a million on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Cleverer than a 'Mastermind Champion'? Or are the students on 'University Challenge' the brainiest? Well we decided to find out. And you could have cut the tension in the studio with a knife. This quiz is a Christmas monster!".
The 15 competitors do battle across a series of rounds, each one designed to test a different aspect of their quiz knowledge, catch out other contestants or beat the clock. Contestants are eliminated each round, until just two remain to go head-to-head in a climactic final.
“We Brits love a quiz show – from the intellectual rigours of 'Mastermind' to the high drama and life-changing moments of 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire', we are a nation of quiz addicts. But we’ve never seen the contestants of these shows competing against each other. 'Quizmaster' will answer the ultimate question all fans want to know - who is the cleverest of them all?,” commented Daniela Neumann, MD of Spun Gold.
The format "Quizmaster" is a Spun Gold TV production for ITV. It is produced by Colin Farquhar, directed by Richard van’t Riet and executive produced by Sue Allison. It was commissioned by Sue Murphy and Kate Teckman. The format is being distributed internationally by All3Media International.
