Russia's major distributor Central Partnership has signed a deal with French sales agent Kinology, transferring international distribution and festival promotion rights to "Gerda", a drama directed by Natalya Kudryashova.

The film is co-produced by Central Partnership and Russian Resurrection with support from the Russian Ministry of Culture, Kinoprime Foundation for the Development of Contemporary Cinematography, and the Red Media Broadcast and Production Union.

"Gerda" is a story about a young woman named Lera who is trying to escape the constraints of her provincial life. A sociology student by day, she works in a local strip joint by night to support herself and her mother, who suffers from a mental disorder. In spite of her bleak, harsh reality, Lera never lets go of her dreams. The drama will premiere on August 8 at the 74th annual Locarno Festival in the International Competition section and it will be released in Russia in the fall of 2021 by the theatrical distributor White Nights.

Katerina Pshenitsyna, VP, International Distribution, Central Partnership: "It is our first collaboration with Kinology and we are glad that it starts with a truly special film 'Gerda' premiering in Locarno. We are sure Kinology is the best candidate for representing the film in the international arena."

Gregoire Melin, CEO, Kinology: "We're thrilled to start this collaboration with Central Partnership and with the producers of Gerda: Natalia's vision is unique and utterly compelling, and ‘Gerda’ is fascinating in all possible aspects."
