A few weeks after leaving CBS Entertainment’s alternative programming division, Sharon Vuong was hired to be NBC’s new Senior Vice President of Alternative Programming and Development. The decision was first announced by the Wall Street Journal’s Joe Flint, who noted it in a tweet. At NBC, Vuong will focus on leading new development, strategy, and the continued growth of NBC’s slate of alternative programming. Vuong will report to NBC’s executive VP of alternative programming and development Jenny Groom.
Vuong worked at CBS for nearly a decade, producing large reality franchises such as “Survivor,” “The Amazing Race,” “Big Brother,” and “The Undercover Boss.” She was promoted to Senior Vice President of CBS’s alternative department in 2017 after serving as VP Alternative Programming in 2012. In addition to Love Island,” other CBS alternative series she oversaw over the past three years include The World’s Best, Million Dollar Mile and TKO, all of which ran for one season.
In an internal memo from mid-April, CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl shared the news of Vuong’s departure with staff, calling the well-liked executive an “invaluable member” of the network and a “guardian and shepherd” of its signature shows. At the time, Kahl had said that Vuong was leaving to spend more time with her family: “While that often sounds like spin, in this case, it’s true.”
