Semillitas TV wins The American Council Of The Blind's 2023 Award

Semillitas, the 24-hour commercial-free Spanish-language children's animation channel owned by SomosTV was recognized by The American Council of the Blind's in its 2023 Audio Description Awards Gala for its Outstanding Achievement: Spanish Media (USA). “This award by an organization as important as the American Council of the Blind, recognizes an aspect that puts Semillitas in the distinguished and unique place that we always seek and maintain," Luis Villanueva, President and CEO of SOMOS Group said. Semillitas received this award in recognition of its dedication to providing accessible content for blind and visually impaired individuals. As a result of a collaborative effort between Somos TV, the U.S. Department of Education, and the Dicapta Foundation, all Semillitas programming offers Closed Captions and Audio Description. The American Council of the Blind (ACB) is a nationwide organization in the United States mainly made up of blind and visually impaired people who want to achieve independence and equality (although there are many sighted members with common aims). Semillitas, as part of its mission to entertain all Latino preschoolers, offers audio description in its animation, which lets this part of the audience enjoy the stories and educational messages in the channel’s content.

The organization is a national member-driven organization representing Americans who are blind or have low vision. For more than 60 years, ACB has been a leader in national, state, local, and international advocacy efforts. With 68 affiliates, ACB strives to increase independence, security, equality of opportunity, and the quality of life for all people who are blind or have low vision. The Audio Description Awards Gala was created in 2021 to recognize outstanding achievement in audio description in entertainment and educational media.
