The Smurfs’ new movie launches in 59 countries

The new Paramount and Nickelodeon film, a hybrid of live-action and animation, features Rihanna as the voice of Smurfette.

The new The Smurfs movie has launched in 59 countries, with upcoming releases scheduled for South Korea on August 7, Italy on August 27, and Japan on September 19. This action-adventure comedy from Paramount and Nickelodeon is directed by Chris Miller and produced by Ryan Harris.

The film places a strong emphasis on music, with Rihanna not only voicing the iconic character Smurfette but also writing and performing original songs for the soundtrack.

EXPANDING THE REACH

In another deals, Season 1 of The Smurfs animated series is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video across Latin America, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Additionally, EDYE — the premium kids’ SVOD platform in Latin America and Brazil — has also picked up Season 1 of the new series.

In Ukraine, Sweet TV is now streaming both Season 1 and Season 2 of the series. In Mexico, TV Azteca has acquired the beloved classic feature film "The Smurfs and the Magic Flute", introducing timeless Smurf adventures to a new generation of viewers. Meanwhile in Spain, broadcaster 3CAT (TVCatalunya) has partnered to air the entire Classic Smurfs series in Catalan, starting in Q4 2025 on free-to-air television.
