"Joachim and the Apocalypse"
Delta Star Pictures has reached a distribution agreement with the independent international sales company TVCO for the foreign sales of the film "Joachim and the Apocalypse", directed by Jordan River. The film will be included in its dedicated ‘TVCO Faith’ catalogue.
"The film is evocative and is sure to raise questions, not so much because it revives interest in the figure of Joachim of Fiore, but because it focuses on the thought of the monastic reformer and founder of the Fiore order, rather than being strictly a biopic. Indeed, cinema should also and above all, excite and raise awareness on questions about life and the world in which we live," said Valentina Gramisci, Communication Department of Production at Delta Star Pictures. "The general public still knows little about this figure, except for his mention in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Dante, a pillar of world literature, canonized him centuries before the official Church, placing him in Paradise (Canto XII, vv. 139-141) and calling him ‘...of a prophetic spirit endowed," she added.
On June 27, 2024, Pope Francis, in his message for the World Day of Creation, quoted Joachim of Fiore as saying that he ‘Joachim was able to propose the ideal of a new spirit’ and thus marks a turning point in history, as this had never happened before in more than eight centuries since the death of the Florensis monk.
Numerous international artists and thinkers, including Montaigne, Hegel, Joyce, and Michelangelo for the Last Judgment, were inspired by his figurative thought.
"The film is the result of years of research involving numerous scholars and research centres, providing interesting material that will certainly make people think about many issues, including those related to John's Apocalypse, which are rarely addressed by the religious world. Moreover, the film is also a poetic and fantastic journey among the archetypes of existence and the Dantean and otherworldly journey that we all, believers and atheists alike, will have to undertake," Gramisci asserted.
The film is scheduled to be released in December 2024, coinciding with the start of the Holy Year. Several events are planned both in Italy and abroad, during which the public will be able to meet the cast and crew of the film and discover various curiosities. By late summer, the film will be available in English and from next year in all languages.
