Indie production company Woodcut Media has promoted Matthew Gordon from Senior Executive Producer to the newly created role of Head of Contemporary Factual, effective immediately. In this new position, Gordon is tasked with developing and expanding the company’s factual output, and will continue to report to Kate Beal, Founder & CEO of Woodcut.

Since joining Woodcut in 2018, Gordon has executive produced a wide range of commissions such as “Murder in the Red Light” (3x45’) and “Becoming Ian Brady” (3x45’) for Prime Video UK/Ireland, “World’s Most Dangerous Prisoners” (10x60’) for Channel 5 (UK) and FilmRise (US), and “The Suitcase Murders” (8x60’) for Warner Bros. Discovery UK & Ireland, among others.

Gordon’s distinguished career spans 20 years. Prior to Woodcut, he worked across a broad range of factual, features and documentary programming, from science and history through to drama-docs and consumer journalism. Credits include “Comic Relief does Car Booty” (BBC1), “Four in a Bed” (Channel 4), and “Can’t Pay We’ll Take It Away” and “Murdered by my Fiancé” (Channel 5).

Furthermore, Woodcut Media announced that it has also hired Jason Tomkins, who joins as Post Production Manager, responsible for shepherding and growing the company’s in-house facility.

“Matthew has been instrumental in creating our true crime slate and consolidating our reputation within the genre. This promotion recognizes his contribution to Woodcut’s growth and is richly deserved. We are also delighted to welcome Jason to our team,”  said Kate Beal, Founder and CEO of Woodcut Media.

“Woodcut is always looking to find fresh approaches to storytelling, and this is at the heart of our contemporary factual productions. As we approach 2024, I very much look forward to building on this as we continue to expand our output,”  Matthew Gordon commented.
