CuriosityStream, the factual entertainment brand with millions of viewers around the world, has acquired several of Balanga’s series exploring true crime, history, and culture, for both its SVOD and pay-tv services.

“Over the last five years, CuriosityStream has built a very attractive and respected factual brand and has become one of the leading worldwide SVOD platforms offering meaningful and high-end unscripted content. We are extremely delighted and proud to bring the best of French factual programming to CuriosityStream’s global audience,” said Pierre Betsch, VP Development at Balanga.

To expand its growing true crime library, CuriosityStream picked up three seasons of Balanga’s “Crime Scene Solvers” (30x52’), a forensic-like series that makes the clues talk, initially aired on RMC Story in France and ZDF info in Germany; and two seasons of “The Case” (12 x 52’), a cinematic series where exceptional cops agreed to go fully on record and reveal the cases that changed their lives. It premiered originally on Planète+

The streaming platform also acquired two history series -- one season of “Face to Face” (6 x 52’), Balanga’s blockbuster which has already sold to over 100 territories in the world, portraying two famous icons seen through the prism of their rivalry; and three seasons of “Butterfly Effect” (39 x 26’) for CuriosityStream’s linear channels in several international markets. CuriosityStream had previously licensed the series for its SVOD service.

Finally, CuriosityStream has also added Balanga’s one-hour special “Bolero: A Global Hit” about the melody played somewhere in the world every 15 minutes. The film, originally produced for ARTE, explores how this famous tune inspired and influenced pop-culture around the globe.
