"The Anatomy of a Moment"
Following the critical and public success of “The Anatomy of a Moment” at the last San Sebastián Film Festival, the series was screened on Saturday, October 18, in the Freestyle Serie section of the Rome Film Festival, where it was very well received by the audience as the only Spanish television drama featured. In attendance were director and screenwriter Alberto Rodríguez, producer José Manuel Lorenzo (DLO Producciones), and Movistar Plus+’s Director of Fiction and Partnerships, Jorge Pezzi. “The Anatomy of a Moment” will also open the Serielizados Festival in Barcelona on Monday, November 3, with the screening of its first two episodes and the participation of Álvaro Morte, Eduard Fernández, Miki Esparbé, and Alberto Rodríguez.
“The Anatomy of a Moment” is an original Movistar Plus+ series produced in collaboration with DLO Producciones and in association with ARTE France. The series will be distributed internationally by Movistar Plus+ International and will premiere on Movistar Plus+ on November 20.
The title, directed by Alberto Rodríguez and written by Rafael Cobos, Fran Araújo, and Alberto Rodríguez, is based on Javier Cercas’s 2009 bestselling book of the same name, considered the definitive account of the attempted coup d’état on February 23. The series is produced by José Manuel Lorenzo, Fran Araújo, Domingo Corral, and Manuela Ocón.
Based on the 23-F coup d'état that took place in Spain on February 23, 1981, “The Anatomy of a Moment” dissects one of the most pivotal events in recent Spanish history: the Transition. When Civil Guard Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Tejero stormed into the Congress building with a pistol in hand, only three men remained seated while the rest ducked for cover—Adolfo Suárez, Santiago Carrillo, and Gutiérrez Mellado.
Through these three men, who played leading roles in Spain’s transition to democracy, and the three main figures behind the coup—Tejero, Milans, and Armada—the series recounts the chain of events and tensions that brought the country to the brink of a return to military rule. It is based on the book by Javier Cercas, described as “one of the major works of literature in the Spanish language of our time.”
The cast includes Álvaro Morte as Adolfo Suárez, Eduard Fernández as Santiago Carrillo, Manolo Solo as Manuel Gutiérrez Mellado, and David Lorente as Antonio Tejero, along with Óscar de la Fuente as Jaime Milans de Bosch, Juanma Navas as Alfonso Armada, and Miki Esparbé as Juan Carlos I.
