"Gloria!"
Rai Cinema participates in the 74th Berlin Film Festival with four titles, including films and documentaries, which it contributed to producing. Two of these films are in the Festival's main competition and both distributed theatrically in Italy by 01 Distribution: "Another End" by Piero Messina with a great international cast that includes Gael García Bernal, Renate Reinsve, Bérénice Bejo and Olivia Williams and "Gloria! debut work by the musician and singer-songwriter Margherita Vicario, an Italian-Swiss production, with Galatea Bellugi, Carlotta Gamba, Veronica Lucchesi ("La Representative di Lista"), Paolo Rossi, Elio ("Elio e le storie tese"), Natalino Balasso, Anita Kravos, Vincenzo Create.
In the Generation Plus section will participate the second work by Carlo Sironi, "Quell’estate Con Irène", an Italy-France co-production, with Noée Abita, Camilla Brandenburg, Claudio Segaluscio, and in Forum, the documentary film by Costanza Quatriglio, "Il Cassetto Segreto," a story that from the walls of the house embraces Sicily, Europe and the world, in a century of history. An Italy-Swiss co-production, distributed theatrically by Luce Cinecittà.
“A new generation of Italian authors is making its way into the Berlinale selection this year," comments Paolo Del Brocco, CEO of Rai Cinema. "Two works in the main competition that reflect an already outlined idea of cinema, which is not afraid to explore genres and attempt new avenues of storytelling; a cinema that strikes for the liveliness of its gaze and for the new stories it offers. Piero Messina, in his second directorial attempt, is competing with a film of international scope in which he deals in a surprising way with a profound theme that touches all of us, the pain of separation from the people we love. Margherita Vicario, on the other hand, is a voice yet to be discovered in the panorama of our cinema: courageous in her directorial choices, she takes her steps into auteur cinema and enriches it with her passion, music, giving the story unexpected implications. Carlo Sironi, after his good debut with Sole, projects us into the unfiltered emotions of a group of teenagers faced with the first unforgettable experiences of life. And finally the work of Costanza Quatriglio who returns to her parents' house to give us back, with a tender and sentimental gaze, the world that belonged to her journalist father, intertwining private memory and collective memory in a single intimate story plan".
NEW DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY
Rai Cinema and Rai Com have revealed the new agreement between the two companies in order to optimize, within the Rai Group, the international distribution activities of the film product. The purpose of the agreement is to strengthen the visibility of international cinema abroad right from this February, when Rai Cinema will distribute new films abroad, which will then continue to be managed by Rai Com for library exploitations. Rai Cinema will also operate under the new brand Rai Cinema International Distribution, launching its activities in foreign markets at the Berlinale’s European Film Market.
