After enchanting more than one million spectators in various European countries, the immersive show "Luminiscence" continues its international expansion and lands in Barcelona. Starting October 26, the iconic Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi (Plaça del Pi, 7) will be transformed into a temple of light, music, and emotion through this multisensory experience created by Lotchi (Banijay Live) and produced by Banijay Iberia.
Pilar Blasco, CEO of Banijay Iberia, stated: “With the launch of 'Luminiscence', we’re putting all our expertise into live event production that goes beyond television. We’re diversifying our offering by developing in our territory ideas that have succeeded internationally, as is the case with this show, while also launching new live projects we’re passionate about.”
Romain Sarfati, co-founder of Lotchi, commented: “Our mission is to preserve, transmit, and promote heritage on a global scale by offering an artistic and inclusive experience that allows the widest possible audience to discover the cultural richness of these spaces—regardless of age, culture, nationality, or religion.”
The experience combines live choral music, visual storytelling, 360º video mapping, and 3D projections to bring the architecture of this historic Gothic temple to life. Each performance will feature a musical repertoire including masterpieces by Beethoven, Bach, Verdi, Vivaldi, Satie, Schubert, Debussy, and other great composers. In harmony with the visual projections and the venue’s acoustics, the pieces will be performed by the Francesc Valls Choir under the direction of Pere Lluís Biosca and will include an a cappella Catalan folk song as a signature element.
"Luminiscence" has already been staged in cathedrals across France and Germany and will soon debut in the Netherlands and the United States, at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis. In Spain, the show premiered this summer at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd in San Sebastián, where it has already been seen by over 50,000 people.
The show, which runs for approximately 50 minutes, offers an unprecedented immersive sound experience. Thanks to a surround speaker system and the temple’s natural acoustics, every note and voice resonates through the space, transforming listening into a deep sensory experience. This fusion of music, history, and technology has been described by attendees as “absolutely unique, moving, and immersive,” and as “a must-see performance.”
The Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi, built between the 14th and 15th centuries, is one of the finest examples of Catalan Gothic architecture. Its single nave spans over 54 meters in length, and its imposing rose window—one of the largest in Europe—makes it the ideal setting for a production like "Luminiscence". Located in the heart of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, just steps from Las Ramblas, it stands as a symbol of the city’s medieval spirituality and artistic heritage.
Performances will be offered in both Catalan and Spanish and are open to all audiences. Online tickets will soon be available at luminiscence.com/Barcelona, where interested visitors can already join a waitlist. Physical tickets will also be available at the Basilica, the Barcelona Cathedral, and nearby tourist offices.
With this new stop in Barcelona, "Luminiscence" cements its status as one of Europe’s most acclaimed and highly rated immersive shows, elevating the artistic experience and bringing historical heritage closer to new generations.
