After a successful return in 2022, when the event gathered more than 5000 delegates from over 80 countries, MIPTV is ready to come back to the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, from April 17 to 19, with a three-day exhibition and conference program, offering a global meeting-place for four key TV communities: documentary (MIPDoc), formats (MIPFormats), drama (MIPDrama), and kids (Future of Kids TV Summit).
The organizers already confirmed several major international distributors, buyers, and production companies for this year’s market. In fact, MIPTV is forecasting overall growth in attendees to be up 20% for 2023. In total, this 60th Edition of the Spring International Content and Co-Production Market is tracking to welcome over 6000 international entertainment executives.
This surge in MIPTV bookings includes more than 530 exhibiting companies and 1600 buyers hailing from over 80 countries, amongst them hundreds of the industry’s biggest international studios, distributors, content producers, and FAST channel players. The market is also being fueled by a strong return from Africa and Asia-Pacific regions (including China, which returns with its first presence at a MIP market since 2019), alongside a marked growth in buyers attending from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Türkiye. “MIPTV is back to growth. We are expecting the biggest MIPTV in years for our 60th anniversary. I am hugely grateful for the overwhelmingly positive response to the reformatted MIPTV. It is not too late to join us in Cannes,” said RX France Entertainment Division Director & Director of MIPTV, Lucy Smith.
As usual, the market program will be full of sessions in which leading specialists and executives from the industry will address different topics related to the current landscape. Evan Shapiro, Emmy and Peabody Award-winning producer and professor of Television at New York University; Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal and Deputy CEO at Canal+ Group; Susan Zirinsky, President of See It Now Studios; and Ruth Berry, Managing Director of Global Distribution and Global Entertainment at ITV Studios, are just a few of the names confirmed for the event. ● MIPDOC AND MIPFORMATS
This year, the footprints for both MIPDoc and MIPFormats are significantly expanded, including the inaugural MIPDoc International Buyer Screening Showcase for over 500 invited buyers on the eve of the market, and an extended MIPFormats programme featuring further workshops, the FRAPA summit, and a new Fresh TV Formats survey from The WIT.
In addition, 2023’s MIPTV will feature the build out of a 2000 SQM MIPDoc & MIPFormats Producers Hub including a lounge and conference room in the renowned Riviera Hall, set against the backdrop of Cannes’ iconic Mediterranean sea view designed to accommodate hundreds of meetings daily for creators, producers, commissioners, financiers, and development executives.
● FUTURE OF KIDS TV SUMMIT
Moreover, the organizers announced its kids content programme with a power lineup for the 2023 Future of Kids TV Summit at the market and a new networking lounge to welcome the kids industry, located in the all-new “Le Boulevard Hall” in the Palais des Festivals. Staged on the second day of the 60th MIPTV Spring International Television Content & Co-Production Market, the 2023 edition of Future of Kids TV Summit will offer attendees a transformative experience delving into the future-scape of Generation Alpha.
Kids attendees will have their own “Kids Lounge” for networking as part of the new MIPTV business focused format, serving as the international meeting point for everyone attending the market from the kids community. The 2023 Future of Kids TV Summit will feature global thought leaders alongside some of the sector’s leading digital-first producers and players from social media and insight. The programme will focus on understanding the DNA of Generation Alpha before moving to the challenges and opportunities these provide.
● FAST & GLOBAL
For this year, MIPTV also announced the staging of Fast & Global, the first-of-its-kind FAST Channel Summit focused on the rapidly-expanding international opportunities for content producers, IP rightsholders, buyers and commissioners. Fast & Global will take center stage on the second day of MIPTV.
Fast & Global will convene global players and specialists from across the free advertising-supported streaming TV (FAST) area for a series of talks, insights and structured networking opportunities. With worldwide revenues from FAST estimated to triple in the next five years, and countries outside the United States set to account for US$1.6 billion by 2027, the programme will focus on the projected international opportunities in the sector’s next phase, encompassing distribution, programming, technology, and content development, and providing fresh insights into emerging models, strategies, and tactics.
