Mipcom Cannes and ZDF Studios announced that the world premiere of “Ku’damm 77,” the newest chapter of the internationally acclaimed German family saga, will be staged at this year’s Mipcom Cannes, the world’s largest television and streaming content market, running October 13–16, 2025.

Dr. Markus Schäfer, President and CEO of ZDF Studios, commented: “The selection of ‘Ku’damm 77’ for a World Premiere Screening in Cannes proves the importance of German drama series in this top-class international arena. ZDF Studios is proud of this appealing addition to its drama catalogue, and we are confident that this programme will enjoy the same success with worldwide audiences as previous ‘Ku’damm’ editions.”

Lucy Smith, Director of Mipcom Cannes and MipJunior, added: “The ‘Ku’damm’ collection has truly resonated around the world. Its authentic, universal, and compelling storytelling has struck a chord with audiences, and we are thrilled that the international television community will get the chance to catch the first look of its much-anticipated 70’s era in Cannes.”

Created and written by award-winning showrunner Annette Hess (“The Weissensee Saga,” “The German House”) and directed by Maurice Hübner (“Kitz,” “Family Braun”), the UFA Fiction-produced historical drama continues the generational story of the Schöllack family at the “Galant” dance school on Kurfürstendamm. This latest three-part installment picks up in the politically divided Berlin of the 1970s, exploring themes of emancipation, self-discovery, and generational change with the same emotional depth that has defined the franchise.

The world premiere screening will take place on Tuesday, October 14, at 18:00 in the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals. Open to all delegates, the event will be followed by a Q&A session featuring the showrunner, director, producer, and members of the cast.

“Ku’damm 77” builds on the global success of “Ku’damm 56,” “Ku’damm 59,” and “Ku’damm 63,” which have enjoyed strong ratings in Germany and international distribution in more than 30 countries across Asia, Australia, Africa, the Americas, and Europe, while also receiving an International Emmy nomination. Worldwide distribution is managed by ZDF Studios.

Set in 1977, the story finds three generations of the Schöllack family living above the dance school. Sisters Monika (Sonja Gerhardt) and Helga (Maria Ehrich) navigate family tensions alongside their daughters Dorli (Carlotta Bähre) and Friederike (Marie Louise Albertine Becker), while their mother Caterina (Claudia Michelsen) remains a central presence. Absent is their sister Eva (Emilia Schüle), whose prison sentence continues to shape the family’s dynamic.

The ensemble cast returns alongside new additions, including Carlotta Bähre, Marie Louise Albertine Becker, Massiamy Diaby, Florian Stetter, and Aziz Dyab. The series is produced by UFA Fiction for ZDF, with producers Marc Lepetit, Nico Hofmann, and Markus Brunnemann. Commissioning editors at ZDF are Heike Hempel, Bastian Wagner, and Beate Bramstedt.
