South Korean entertainment company CJ ENM’s "Pyramid Game" was presented at Series Mania 2024. The title was invited as the only K-Content to be showcased during the Special Screening section and had its primary European premiere. The 1st and 2nd episodes were introduced to the audiences at one of the biggest theaters in Lille, France.
Co-produced by Film Monster and CJ ENM Studios and presented by South Korean streaming platform TVING and Paramount+, "Pyramid Game" is a young-adult thriller drama revolving around Seong Su-ji, a newcomer to Baekyeon Girls’ High School, who gets introduced to a ranking system that chooses outcasts via secret vote. The show focuses on addressing and criticizing realistic issues regarding school violence, which can be deemed as an invisible hierarchical “pyramid.”
Before the screening, Lise Haulshalter, the manager of the programming team of Series Mania, and Hannah Suh, the manager of CJ ENM’s International Content Marketing, portrayed their high anticipation through a brief interview session. Pinpointing the sensitively drawn psychologies between the characters of the story as the most charming aspect of the drama series, Suh introduced how the adaptation of its original webtoon and the casting were thoroughly planned for it. Suh also prepared a special shoutout video of the main cast starring in "Pyramid Game" to further exhilarate the crowd.
Anne Masuda, the VP of Digital Distribution from Paramount Global Content Distribution, contextualized the deployment of the title within the framework of the growth of K-content: “The success of 'Pyramid Game' at Series Mania 2024 is a testament to the universal appeal of the title. We are so excited to introduce this latest thrilling series to global audiences together with our growing slate of K-Content from CJ ENM. 'Pyramid Game' is sure to be a favorite among fans of Korean content and beyond," shared.
Sebastian Kim, the Director of CJ ENM’s International Content Sales & Acquisitions, defined the reception of the series as a milestone: “We believe the Special Screening and the European premiere of 'Pyramid Game' have set the milestone for the title to spread its wings further. By highlighting how well-made it is, Pyramid Game will strongly grasp global fans’ attention", noted.
Meanwhile, "Pyramid Game" is now available to stream on TVING in Korea and will launch globally on Paramount+ this year. The show is licensed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.
