On Sunday, June 11, the Annecy International Animated Film Festival kicked-off, running until June 17. For an entire week, the event brings together the biggest names in the industry and celebrates the creativity and diversity of animation styles and techniques. Alongside the Festival, from June 13 to 16, will run the Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa), an event that gathers professionals from the sector to discuss, network, and make acquisitions.

The 2023 edition of the Annecy International Animated Film Festival will be celebrated under the Mexican flag as well as the Pride and Diversity banner. In total, 468 films are presented in the Official Selection. For the films in competition throughout the week, they are sparring for around twenty Official Prizes and a dozen Special Prizes.

“At this Annecy, the world capital of animation film, with over 15.640 badgeholders and 103 countries represented, we have achieved a new historic milestone. It confirms the tremendous development of animation film worldwide and the acknowledgment of an entire industry,”  commented Dominique Puthod, Chairman of CITIA; Mickaël Marin, CEO of CITIA; and Marcel Jean, Artistic Director of the Annecy Festival.

The Festival will also welcome French and international talent who will share some outstanding moments. Some of the special guests are directors Guillermo del Toro, Jorge R. Gutierrez, Eric Goldberg, Jennifer Lee, Chris Meledandri, Rintarō, and Genndy Tartakovsky; stop-motion master Barry JC Purves; and Producer and Founder of Illumination, Chris Meledandri, among many others.

Masterclasses, Studio Focus, Conferences, Work in Progress, “Making of…,” and more, make up the Annecy agenda, which this year offers more than 50 events. Too see more information about the event and its programme, click here.

Meanwhile, 35 years after its creation, the Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa) now welcomes more than 800 international exhibiting companies covering a surface area of more than 7,000m². Located at the Impérial Palace, it also benefits from an online presence since 2020 to encourage even more discussions between participants.

According to its organizers, the Mifa is also the meeting place to discover new talents in animation and discuss their inspirations and aspirations with them. The Mifa Pitches and Recruitment Sessions enable young creators to have a unique stage to connect with professionals and to cement their projects. Online formats are also proposed so that distance does not prevent new opportunities.

Moreover, the event offers the Mifa Conferences, which range from pre-production to distribution, and from production processes to financing works. The Mifa Conferences are presented by leading industry professionals who share their experiences and strategic perspectives with the aim of tackling current and future issues during these invaluable discussions.

The Mifa Conferences and Partners Conferences are held in the Impérial Palace at the Mifa. To see the WIP, “Making of” and Masterclasses' complete programme, click here.
