Sportel Awards, which will take place from October 21 to 23, 2023, has revealed its official selection. For more than 30 years, the most beautiful sports images of the year have been rewarded in Monte-Carlo in two divisions: the Georges Bertellotti Golden Podiums and the Sports Book Prize Renaud de Laborderie. Australian, British, American and French TV channels, production companies, agencies and international federations submitted their best video productions to this competition recognized as the reference for sports images.
All the works in contention were of high quality, and the pre-selection committee undertook a difficult exercise to choose the best ones. In slow motion shots, the emphasis was placed on highlighting the emotion of a sporting moment. It was necessary to distinguish documentaries giving new perspectives on sport, or reports best highlighting a discipline, an event, a team or a sporting personality.
Then the selection of the best sequences comprising an innovation in production, direction or format for the Innovation Prize was also delicate, given the large number of videos entered. Finally, the discussions were lively to pre-select the most beautiful images which best promote a sports program or a sporting event for the Promotion Prize, and the best advertisements relating to sport for the Advertising Prize Christian Blachas.
The Book Prize, sponsored by the Monegasque Olympic Committee, which rewards the most beautiful illustrated work highlighting sports photography, by the richness of its illustrations, will be determined among the six selected books which will compete for the trophy.
The 2023 winners will be revealed during the awards ceremony on October 23 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, in the presence of numerous Olympic champions, world champions and celebrities from a large number of sporting disciplines.
At the same time, Katarina Witt’s 37 years of success on the ice are going to be rewarded by the Lifetime Sport Achievement Award which will be presented to her on Monday October 23, 2023 during the Sportel Awards ceremony, at the Grimaldi Forum.
