Geographically-speaking, Australia is a long way from Latin America, but ABC Commercial, the distribution arm of the Australian public broadcaster, is looking to bridge that gap as it attends Content Americas for the first time in 2024. With a broad new slate that includes premium scripted, children’s and factual content, plus a catalogue of programs dubbed into Spanish, ABC Commercial’s Content Sales Manager, Karen Quinn, is looking forward to attending the market (table 35) and hopes to connect with buyers looking for high quality, trusted content. “ABC Commercial represents many of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s flagship brands and programs as well as its world-class talent, and we have a catalogue of more than 3,000 hours of content across every genre – including content in Spanish,” Quinn said.
Following the global success of award-winning ABC Commercial content like comedy series "Fisk", format "You Can’t Ask That", and the documentary series recently acquired by the BBC, "First Wars", ABC Commercial is looking to expand its reach – and has Latin America firmly in its sights.
Quinn, who herself has Chilean heritage, believes there is a lot on the ABC Commercial slate that will resonate with audiences in the region. “Australians are incredible storytellers who often inject humour and light into their content. I think that some of our scripted comedy series like 'Why Are You Like This', 'Aftertaste' and the upcoming 'White Fever' will strike a chord with buyers looking to engage younger generations while 'Mother and Son' and the forthcoming 'Ladies In Black' will be a hit with audiences 30+," she commented.
“The ABC is also globally renowned for its children’s content (we commissioned 'Bluey!') so I’d really like buyers to explore our kid’s slate, which includes two seasons of 'Beep and Mort' (recently nominated for a Kidscreen Award and acquired by Sky Kids UK, Wildbrain Television Canada and beIN Media Group, Qatar) and exciting new live action series 'Planet Lulin', which has just gone to air in Australia and is already receiving fantastic audience feedback,” said Quinn.
Factual is also huge for ABC Commercial. Buyers looking for content with impact should consider "Dolphins: Is Our Love Too Deep?", "First Wars", and "Paper City" while those looking for science-based programs may be interested in "AI vs Human: The Creativity Experiment", "Miracle Babies: Operation Hope" and "Kill or Cure: The Story of Venom.”
CONTENT IN SPANISH
