IBC 2020 EVENT WAS CANCELED DUE TO COVID-19

The broadcast event of the European market decided, after 50 years of continuity, to cancel its show dedicated to the media, entertainment and technology industry. The organization will continue to be active through its IBC365 digital platform.

Ending the rumors, the organizers of IBC 2020 decided to cancel the show that was scheduled for September 11-14 at the RAI in Amsterdam. In a statement, CEO Michael Crimp assured that the conditions were not in place to give security to exhibitors and attendees due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Although the IBC team has focused on evaluating and developing appropriate plans to develop the fair this September at RAI Amsterdam, it is crucial that IBC could offer a safe and successful environment. However, as governments announce their de-escalation roadmaps, it has become clear that a return to (new) normality is unlikely to be achieved by September. An early decision is preferable so that the industry can plan for the future," said Michael Crimp, CEO of the International Broadcasting Convention.

In addition, the executive explained that "the important elements of a large-scale event such as IBC would be greatly altered by social distancing, travel restrictions, the use of masks ... so much so that the spirit of IBC will be compromised", remarked.

Despite the disappointment of the announcement, Crimp acknowledged, "The organization will continue to play a vital role in supporting the industry to get us back on track where we can." And he maintained that IBC's future plans and how it will continue to interact with the industry will be communicated shortly through the IBC365 digital platform.
