Telemundo's popular news show "Noticias Telemundo" won “Set of the Year” in the annual Broadcast Production Awards, hosted by the trade publication NewscastStudio in the category of Set Design Special Event of the year, in recognition of its 2020 election night set. “This award is a testament to our approach to covering news by combining the strength of our reporting team with visually compelling elements to give our viewers the most complete news coverage,” said Patsy Loris, senior vice president of special projects at Noticias Telemundo.

"Noticias Telemundo" presented its election night coverage from a custom-designed, state-of-the-art set built at Telemundo Center in Miami. To create the election studio, a crew of 150 people transformed Noticias Telemundo’s newsroom into a 16,000 square foot broadcast-ready set that featured 6 million pixels of LED video technology, more than 350 lighting instruments, and a three-part curved anchor desk. The election coverage also featured the latest technology in visual storytelling tools, including augmented reality graphics, a 120-inch interactive touchscreen delivering real-time elections graphics, and a customized set for social media reporting.

Two years ago, the news show won two Broadcast Production Awards in the categories of Set Design and National and Set Technology of the Year. The awards followed the unveiling of Noticias Telemundo’s innovative 360-degree studio, the home of its regular newscasts. Click here to read more about this year’s Broadcast Production Awards.

To put the show together, Patsy Loris, SVP of Special Projects served as Executive Producer, while Gilberto “Gilo” Rivera served as Director, Raul Gutierrez served as Project Manager. Santiago Rompotis contributed to the augmented reality graphics, Emma Iglesias took on the on-air graphics, Daniel Marosi of Creative Order Design Studio put together the set design alongside Telemundo’s in-house creative team, and John Daniels “JD” of Karpe Diem handled the lighting design. Other contributions include PopMasters for Set Fabrication, Rigging from Stealth Rigging, Large format printing by image productions, and AV integration by Tru Pixel.

The Broadcast Production Awards are an important sign of recognition for TV broadcasters worldwide. Other nominees in the category include "CBS News" and "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute." “Last year’s election was historic, and we spared no effort in keeping Latino viewers informed about the latest developments,” Loris said.
