THE HISTORY CHANNEL TO AIR A+E NETWORK’S “TOKYO LEGACY” IN 20 ASIAN MARKETS

The local Japan production is the first of its kind to showcase the post-war history of Tokyo. The feature-length documentary will be aired in across Asia on 20th December at 9 AM on The History Channel Southeast Asia.

The History Channel Japan announced the global premiere of its highly-anticipated local original production, “Tokyo Legacy,” set to be aired across 20 Asian markets on December 20, 2020. “Tokyo Legacy” is the first comprehensive documentary film about the post-war history of Tokyo to the present day,” said John Flanagan, General Manager, A+E Networks Japan. “It’s an uplifting story that chronicles the ups and downs of Tokyo while highlighting the metropolis’ resilience to make a comeback. I would like to express and extend my sincere gratitude to all of the interviewees that took the time to talk to us and help us create this incredible story of courage and growth.”

The feature-length documentary was directed by Chris Humphrey and produced by Yuuji Ueda, Rei Ono, and Ellison Stanley. It is set to debut at 9 PM SGT on the History Channel in Southeast Asia. Its production includes valuable and archive footage, featuring poignant testimonies of the sights and sounds of the old Tokyo that only those who were there at that time to witness the post-war lows could understand.

The History Channel garnered sources to chart the history of Tokyo’s transformation and evolution from the post-war 40s to the present day. With a collection of perspectives from interviews with key opinion leaders including international scholars, researchers, historians, sociologists, economists, and journalists of various nationalities. The channel utilizes a global network to convey the power of the city of Tokyo from Japan to the world, unprecedented growth and change, and great potential for the present and future from a global perspective.

A+E Networks original content "Tokyo Legacy" Japan is a definitive documentary program that explores how Tokyo transforms into one of the world's largest cities after the end of the war in 1945. After World War II, Japan suffered great physical and mental damage, including the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and in Tokyo, the capital that was destroyed by large-scale air raids. However, after that, in 1959, Tokyo won the 1964 Olympic Games and then made great progress in the world in various aspects such as advanced technology, economic power, and culture. In 2021, the Olympic Games are about to be held again in Tokyo.
