About Premium Content (APC) has secured the global rights to Arte’s recently completed documentary on the legendary fashion designer Pierre Cardin, who passed away last week aged 98.

Laurent Boissel and Emmanuelle Guilbart, Joint-CEOs and Co-Founders at APC, say: “'Pierre Cardin, A Figure of Modernity’ is an inspiring documentary – celebrating the life and work of one of the most celebrated fashion designers. The fashion world is mourning his loss at the end of 2020 and this timely and fitting documentary pays tribute to his genius. We hope this film will offer a unique insight into his life which his fans and admirers have never seen before.”

"Pierre Cardin, A Figure of Modernity" – an English-language 52’ film produced by O2B Films for Arte – tells the fascinating tale of the most controversial great French couturier, from his humble beginnings as an Italian refugee, to his exceptional artistic and financial successes. His life was also a reflection of the incredible historical evolution over the past 70 years. From the end of the pre-war aristocrat class to the rise of the middle class; from the birth of youth culture to the early days of the conquest of space; from the first signs of globalization to the fall of the communist bloc, Cardin was always one step ahead of his contemporaries, shaking up the elitist world of Haute Couture to build his destiny and his empire.

He was a private man and extremely discreet about his life, despite great friendships and passionate romances. For the first time, his life is revealed in this modern and glamorous documentary which alternates between unpublished archive images and Chinese ink drawing derived from the great designer’s world.
