"Deal or No Deal"
Banijay Entertainment announced the return of the legendary game show "Deal or No Deal" to Sweden after 11 years. Produced by Meter/Jarowskij, part of Banijay Nordic, the highly anticipated revival will air this spring on TV4 in partnership with the Postcode Lottery. Hosted by Rickard Sjöberg, the show will air in primetime on Fridays and Saturdays. This announcement follows the recent unveiling of "Against All Odds," showcased at Banijay Entertainment’s exclusive London TV Screenings event, Banijay BAFTA 195 Piccadilly.
A global hit, "Deal or No Deal" challenges contestants to play for a top cash prize, relying on strategy and intuition. In the Swedish version, players face 20 sealed bags, each containing a different cash amount. Without knowing what’s inside, they must decide whether to accept an offer from the mysterious Banker or take a chance at winning up to 1 million kronor. As the game progresses, the Banker’s offers change based on the remaining prizes, creating a thrilling experience for both contestants and viewers. The new season premieres on May 9 and will run for five weeks in the spring and five weeks in the fall on TV4 and TV4 Play.
Madelene Hansson, CEO of Meter/Jarowskij, highlighted the excitement for the return of this beloved, high-stakes show: “‘Deal or No Deal’ is a beloved format that creates incredible drama and tension, both in the studio and at home. We’re excited to bring it back to Sweden and are confident it will become must-watch television on TV4," commented.
Lucas Green, Chief Content Officer, Operations at Banijay Entertainment, linked the revival to the global trend of classic formats returning: “Classic formats are making a strong comeback, drawing in both longtime fans and new audiences. ‘Deal or No Deal’ continues to be a success worldwide, and we expect the Swedish revival to capture that same excitement," noted.
One of Banijay Entertainment’s most enduring franchises, "Deal or No Deal" has been produced in over 80 territories, with more than 350 versions worldwide. Originally launched in the Netherlands in 2002, the show remains a hit, with recent successful reboots in South Africa, the UK, and record-breaking viewership in Italy.
Meter/Jarowskij, led by Madelene Hansson, is known for producing top non-scripted formats, including "MasterChef," "SAS: Who Dares Wins," "Good Luck Guys," "LEGO Masters," and "Fort Boyard." The company continues to develop and adapt major international formats while investing in local creativity to bring fresh new shows to Sweden and beyond.
