Independent producer October Films is in production on a feature documentary special for Remembrance Day and a series for Channel 5 exploring hidden aspects of World War II.

“How Britain Won World War Two” (1x165’) is a special feature-length documentary to mark this year’s Remembrance Day in which Michael Buerk and Arthur Williams reveal the hidden stories and events that changed the course of World War Two. They look behind the scenes of some of the most famous turning points in the war – such as Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain, and the D-Day landings - to find the unsung heroes and heroines who made them possible. With Michael’s experience as a Foreign Correspondent and Arthur’s as a Royal Marine, they explore the hidden places where history was made, meeting experts, historians and family members to hear the untold stories of the ordinary people who were called upon to do the extraordinary.

In “The Dambusters Story: A Battle Against Time” (3x60’), historian Dan Snow relives the nail-biting countdown to the most daring and ingenious bombing raids in history. The story begins in Spring 1943 as Squadron Leader Guy Gibson assembles and trains a crack team of 133 young airmen whose mission is to destroy the great dams of Germany using a revolutionary new bouncing bomb. If successful, they’ll deal a hammer blow to the Nazi war effort. Pushing human skill and engineering capabilities to limit, this is the story of the single mission that can change the course of the Second World War.

“We’re delighted to be in production for Channel 5 on these two shows in which Michael, Arthur and Dan discover hidden heroes and new evidence about some of Britain’s most iconic stories from World War II; revealing the people and their moments of destiny that forged our common history,”  said Adam Bullmore, Managing Director at October Films.

“How Britain Won World War Two” is executive produced by Julia Harrington, the producer is Bob Marsden, and it was commissioned by Daniel Pearl. “The Dambusters Story: A Battle Against Time” is executive produced by Neil Breakwell, the series producer is Jamie Simpson, and it was commissioned by Lucy Willis.
