The thriller novel "The Memory Game", by the British writing duo known collectively as Nicci French, is to be adapted into a Dutch feature film. After its cinema release, it will also be screened as a three-part miniseries. The project is a collaboration between Dutch FilmWorks, EndemolShine Scripted, and the world-famous writers Nicci Gerrard and Sean French. It will bring several titles by the pair to the Netherlands in the coming years and edit them for film and TV. The cast and director of The Memory Game will be announced later. Three hundred and forty thousand copies of the novel have been sold in the Netherlands. DFW International is handling worldwide sales.
The story will be brought to the country with Dutch characters. Producer Gerd-Jan van Dalen says: "Although Nicci French’s books are set in the United Kingdom, their characters, dramatic events, and psychological tension are so universal that they’ll remain fully intact even in a Dutch context.” The book will be adapted into a script by Lex Passchier, who has written some of the Netherlands’ most popular TV series, including "Fenna’s Law", "The Oldenheim 12", and "The Schouwendam 12".
Nicci Gerrard commented: "We’ve been coming to the Netherlands with great pleasure for more than twenty years. We’re very enthusiastic about this unique co-production with EndemolShine Scripted and DFW, and proud that our stories are now coming to life in the Netherlands."
Nicci Gerrard and Sean French made their debut with The Memory Game in 1997, and this literary psychological thriller was an immediate and overwhelming success. Between 1997 and 2010 the couple wrote at least one thriller a year, all of them standalone books. They have topped the international bestseller lists for many years, and more than six million copies of their books have been sold in the Netherlands.
