NICKELODEON ACQUIRES MIKE MITCHELL, DREW MASSEY’S “BRENDAR THE BARBARIAN”

The live-action puppet comedy series is currently undergoing production, overseen by SVP of Live-Action Scripted Content, Shauna Phelan, and is set to premier in 2021.

Nickelodeon announced its decision to greenlight the working title, “Brendar the Barbarian.” “It’s amazing to work with such immensely talented creators like Mike and Drew. Their imaginative puppetry, uniquely cinematic vision, and hilarious voice make this a show like no other,” saidShauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content. “'Brendar the Barbarian' is a truly original series that kids and families of all ages are going to love.”

The live-action puppet series was ordered from its co-creators Mike Mitchel and expert puppeteer Drew Massey. It was written and executively produced by Mitchell, who also serves as director, and Massey, who also serves as the lead puppeteer.

Production for the "Brendar The Barbarian" will begin later this year and is slated to debut on Nickelodeon next year. It is overseen for Nickelodeon by Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content; and Zack Olin, Senior Vice President, Live Action.

The 13 episodes of the comedy show follow Evan, a bridge troll in search of adventure, and Brendar, a fierce female warrior, on a mission to win against an evil demon who has imprisoned her brother. Throughout their journey and encounters with an eclectic puppet cast of wacky characters, they both learn that they’re better together and form an unbreakable friendship.
