Rainmaker Content has acquired the international distribution rights to 8 x 1-hour epic fantasy thriller “The Bone Season” based on the international best-selling book series, written by next-generation author Samantha Shannon. “This is an exceptional and engaging narrative with a rich quality – combining the scope and characterization of epic fantasy with the peril and moral predicaments of a dystopian drama,” Vicky Ryan, Co-Founder, and COO at Rainmaker Content said.

Already translated into 26 languages and now in development for the small screen,  “The Bone Season” was designed to be a multiple-season returning series, the drama will be produced by Harriet Hammond of Little Hat Productions. It will be executive produced by Hammond and Victor Glynn of GCB Films. “We are delighted to be working with Samantha, Harriet, and IR Bell-Webb as they set out on this exciting journey to recreate “The Bone Season” for the huge army of fans who we know cannot wait to see their heroine and this remarkable world come to life,” Ryan said.

With input from Samantha Shannon, the screen adaptation is currently being penned by rising Scottish talent IR Bell-Webb. Mentored by Russell T. Davies as part of the BFI Flare Scheme, BIFA- and BAFTA-nominated Bell-Webb graduated from the NFTS with a masters in screenwriting.  Agencies are currently signing talent to the series, with cast and crew to be announced in the coming weeks. “I am extremely excited to be working with the creative team on this series which is so close to my heart,” Samantha Shannon said. “Shifting The Bone Season to the screen is allowing me to explore the world of Scion in even more depth and consider the story from new angles.”

Set in London in 2059, gritty and grounded, “The Bone Season” will evoke London in the Victorian era with a distinct, futuristic look and feel. It is a story of a young woman torn between self-preservation and compassion, who must decide if she can lead a war of justice and place her trust in someone she despises.
